Alicia’s relationship with Kalinda has been rocky and it’s kind of taken a backseat. Do you think in Season 5 we’ll see them come together again?
My guess is not. I think that’s kind of played out because of circumstance. I doubt she’ll be able to trust that friendship fully. I think Kalinda’s character seems to have gone in a different direction. What keeps the show interesting and sort of satisfying is to see other people come into the central character’s life to open her up. She needs female friendship, but she needs to start from scratch. She can’t be pouring her heart out to someone who once slept with her husband.
Juliana Margulies continues her unbroken track record of having never given an interview about The Good Wife that didn’t piss me off.
God knows it’s unrealistic to repair the most meaningful friendship in one’s life (which was fouled before it was actually formed, mind) but it’s perfectly acceptable to agree to renew one’s vows with the cheating spouse (‘Promise me you’ll never put me through that again.’ Right.). …right before making out in a car with the other man, of course. That’s not hypocritical by any definition. JFC.
It’s not as if Alicia (and the writers themselves) don’t exploit Kalinda for the way she cares about Alicia every chance they get. But Alicia being grateful for a friend that actually cares about her? Even acknowledging the way Kalinda goes out of her way for her all the time? Unrealistic.
I’m raging. Someone take the internet away.
Julianna’s attitude toward Kalinda really bothers me. I know that Alicia and Peter have 15+ years of history between the two of them, and that Alicia and Kalinda have just two years between them (before things turned to shit), but Peter betrayed Alicia in a really monumental way. I know that Kalinda did as well, but Kalinda couldn’t change what had already happened. Peter made a choice 18 or so times. A calculated choice that he knew would hurt someone he loved and who loved him so much.
She did this kind of awful thing to someone she didn’t know. But she then got to know her and Alicia taught her how to feel things and care for someone. How to have a true friendship where there is real support (even if Kalinda was reluctant to accept that support).
Julianna always talks about the grey areas that Alicia is discovering, that the world isn’t always so black and white, and it upsets me that the actress who plays this role so well can’t see the grey areas in her own character and the other characters of the show. None of the characters are wholly good or bad. Peter did some awful things, but he has come around quite well and become a much more likable character (as Julianna says). Kalinda did some awful things, but through her friendship with Alicia, she was able to realize these things.
Honestly, I think Kalinda went through a much more fundamental change than Peter. Peter is still the politician he was in the pilot episode—doing things for political gain. Admitting sleeping with a prostitute, “working” on things with his wife, renewing his vows because it will bolster his image. Yes, it’s true Kalinda didn’t want the truth to come to Alicia, but it’s because she felt a desperate need to protect her. It wasn’t vindictive—that she wanted to use it against her, or just always have that power over Alicia… It was because she genuinely cared about Alicia and did NOT want to hurt her in such a way. She knew how Alicia had been hurt before and she didn’t want to contribute to that.
Is it “wrong” of Kalinda to not have been upfront? Maybe. But again that comes back to the grey areas. People make decisions. They make bad ones, they make good ones. They’re sometimes selfish, and sometimes selfless. I just think it’s too easy to boil it down to “that slut slept with my husband” and leave the relationship at that. That’s not the Alicia I know. Alicia worked so hard to forgive Peter and rebuild their relationship, so why wouldn’t she do the same for Kalinda?
what the actual fuck? did my ship just die without me even knowing? I don’t think I even want to read the interview anymore. is this why we don’t see them together at all anymore? THIS MAKES NO SENSE. srsly I love you Alicia but you can be a righteous bitch sometimes. very hypocritical. then again in this case it’s Julianna saying this… so is it her character too? I’m pretty sure we saw forgiveness last season and a slow repair this season. suddenly no more scenes together. WHAT HAPPENED?
The short version: the Kalinda plot in “I Fought the Law” is a richly complicated, sensitively executed, deeply intelligent meditation on sex, violence, trauma, and the State Of Kalinda.
Really great analysis that sums up a lot of my thoughts (as well as bringing up plenty I hadn’t considered). Of course I have my own two cents to offer, below the read more for your dash’s benefit.

I was wondering when someone would get around to making a TGW vid to this song, and this is WONDERFUL. By aliciawillromance2.

“[Diane Lockhart] is a highly accomplished woman who pushed her way past the glass ceiling and is comfortable going toe to toe with the guys. And, as you see by how she dresses, I love the way she still inhabits her femininity. That’s true of so many extraordinary women I see in the world today, so that a woman like her would be reflected on TV is, frankly, one of my happiest ever contributions as an actress.” -Christine Baranski (x)
Come on, Kalinda. What do you care?
#alicia #it’s about alicia #that’s what you care about
Strutting around in sunglasses and sledgehammering holes into the wall are all well and fine, but what about all the other badass things Kalinda does?
- badassedly stuff a check into…her bra? Somewhere in there anyway!
- badassedly dig out a pair of sunglasses from under her jacket!
- badassedly press the elevator button!
- badassedly unlock her door and open it with her thumb!
- badassedly toss her keys into her key receptacle!
- badassedly turn on a light!
